Route:  Paint Rock and Hurricane Valley from Gurley

Distance: ~75.5 miles (~2287’ total elevation)

Start Location: Gurley City Park, Gurley, AL (NEXT to the Gurley Library, 225 Walker St)

Date & Start Time: Saturday, September 9 at 8:00am

Ride Leader: Lewis Harmon, lharmon@mchsi.com, 256-651-4537 (cell)

Description: This is a Century Training Series ride to prepare individuals for the upcoming centuries.  There is a ~2.2 mile section near the start location to Highway 65 eastbound along 72. I checked it out and the wide shoulder is good for riding. This is a scenic ride from Gurley to Huntland through Paint Rock valley.  Then back to Gurley through New Market and along Hurricane Creek. There are several hills/rollers with a cumulative climb of ~2287 ft but NO major climb.  There is an ascent of ~350ft over 2.5 miles starting at mile 30.  I expect the average pace to be between 15-16 mph, slower up hill and faster downhill.

Rest Stops: @ 14, 36, 43, 53, 66.5 miles.

Route and cue sheet can be found at the following webpage:
https://ridewithgps.com/routes/16042783

We will regroup at the rest stops & at major intersections. If individuals ride faster than the specified pace or deviate from the route then they are on their own.

Each participant is expected to bring a cue sheet and/or map, and or loaded GPS and have the phone number of the Ride Leader as well as the phone number of at least one friend.

The rider should have recently completed at least a 50+ mile ride at the above pace to participate in this event.
