I'm glad you contacted me. I would usually lead about a three hour semi-sporty casual ride with a few hills on the weekend. Unfortunately, I have undergone a couple of surgeries that took six months of recovery. My form is too far gone for me to lead anything other than about 90 minutes rehab pace. My two weekly rides fell off the calendar because I struggled to find backup leaders. The Saturday morning east Clinton School ride is back for February on a week to week basis. It is around 50 miles this time of year. I am looking for a March leader for the weekend ride and someone to lead the Wednesday night Cecil Ashburn ride when the daylight switches back. You would like the Wednesday night ride. 27 miles with 1500 feet of vertical.
I recommend signing up for SCCC membership to get regular ride updates. We are working on recruiting more ride leaders across the speed zones.
If you are on evil Facebook, join the Spring City Cycling Club group and another riding group called Cycle Club. They do a lot of weekend pickup long rides and participate in centuries around the area. They started a Monday night after work that is very popular. I think it was started by people who go to church Sunday.
Full disclosure: The Monday night ride is a bit of a free for all, with a reputation for crashes. They have cleaned up a bit, but I have found it sketchy in the various speed groups they run. Cycle Club rides 'differently' than you'd expect if you participate in regular big city fast groups. I don't consider how they ride as a group close to best practices for group rides. Just go in with a sense of situational awareness.
Welcome to Huntsville. We'll work to get you hooked up with some like minded riding partners.
