About this event

Title: Madison County Lake 43
Start Location: Madison County Lake, 2501 County Lake Road, Gurley, AL 35748
Date and Start Time: Saturday, October 7th at 8:30 AM
Ride Leader: Fred McMurry 256-653-8655
Ride link is https://ridewithgps.com/routes/43671847
Description: Scenic ride around the Madison County Lake area. There is a small shop and restroom available at the lake. The cotton is in bloom, the deer are out and the leaves are starting to change. There are abundant rollers but no major climb. We will make a quick turnaround on Sharps Cove 5.1 miles with a rest stop back at the lake 11.1 miles and a second rest stop on Deertrace Parkway 23.7 miles. Route can be easily shortened for those wanting less miles or elevation. There will be a brisk north wind that should give us a nice tailwind coming back to the lake.
Expectations: Please make sure you are familiar with the route. Bring a cue sheet and/or navigational device and have the phone numbers of the Ride Leader and the phone number of at least one friend. Be aware that cell phone service can be spotty. Text message may be the best way to communicate during the ride.
Expected end of ride speed is 14-15 mph but faster on flats and slower on climbs. Generally, riders are expected to stay together and watch out for each other. Be confident you can do the stated speed and distance.
If you choose to ride at a much faster speed than the desired average speed or choose to deviate from the route, you are on your own.
